A very common story is that an old man began to learn Chinese. He was over 80 years old. What the research says

According to a study conducted at the University of Exeter in the UK, learning at any age helps a person stay mentally healthy later in life. The study collected data from more than 2,000 mentally healthy people over the age of 65.

In this case, it was found that people who continued to learn something or other, even in their youth and middle age, were mentally healthier for a long time. They were also less likely to develop diseases such as dementia. The researchers said that by engaging in different types of activities, the body and brain are more likely to stay healthy. The research team included colleagues from the universities of Bangor, Newcastle and Cambridge.

What activities keep the brain healthy

According to researchers, some people use their brains by engaging in different types and new activities. They solve problems using different strategies. They use different networks, so they have a high cognitive reserve.

This creates a buffer in the brain and allows the brain to be more flexible. When this buffer is lacking, symptoms of disease or decay appear.”
