Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a very common type of infection, affecting millions of people worldwide, especially women. These infections occur when bacteria enter the urinary tract where they begin to grow and multiply. Although antibiotics are used to prevent UTIs, it is more important to prevent recurrent infections and the complications they cause. The most effective way to prevent it is to keep enough water. Let’s find out what is the connection between dehydration and UTI.

Because of this, many symptoms appear. Such as painful urination, frequent urination, and pelvic pain.

What is the connection between water and UTI?

Drinking water is still important for health and its role in preventing UTI is very high. When you drink enough water, it helps flush out any dangerous bacteria and other toxins in your urinary tract. Besides, the presence of sufficient amount of water in the body also dilutes the urine, which reduces the accumulation of bacteria and other harmful elements/germs present in the bladder and urine.

What do the studies say about it?

UTI prevention by drinking water has been highlighted in many studies. According to a study published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases, women who drank six to eight ounces of water per day were significantly less likely to develop UTIs than women who drank less than one glass of water per day. . Similarly, a study published in the Journal of Urology found that women who drank more than 1.5 liters of water per day had a 48% lower risk of developing a UTI.

Not all liquids are water substitutes

It’s also important to note that not all fluids are equal in preventing UTIs. Water is the best option, but other liquids, such as coffee, tea, and soda, increase the risk of UTIs. This is because these drinks can irritate the bladder and urethra and also promote certain bacteria. So always remember to drink more water to hydrate the body to avoid UTI.

Bubble baths can also increase the risk of UTIs

Besides drinking water, we can prevent UTIs by making other lifestyle changes. For example, wipe yourself thoroughly from front to back after using the toilet, don’t wear tight clothing, urinate, and after sex. Similarly, avoid certain things that cause irritation, such as overly chemical soaps and bubble baths, etc., as they can cause irritation or inflammation of the urethra.

Know when you need medicine

Although the most effective way to prevent UTI is to drink water, on the other hand, also know that this alone is not enough. If you have frequent UTIs or are prone to frequent infections, your doctor may recommend other measures. Like taking probiotics or using a topical estrogen cream.

To prevent UTIs, follow the advice of your doctor, who can develop an individualized plan for you based on your needs and medical history.

while leaving

In conclusion, it can be said that by drinking drinking water, UTI infections can be prevented in an easy and very effective way. By keeping your body hydrated, you remove bacteria that harm the body and the risk of infection is also reduced due to dilution of urine.

Also, take full care of cleanliness and avoid substances that cause irritation/inflammation etc. Drinking enough water is the main way to prevent UTIs. If you are prone to frequent UTIs or experience any symptoms of infection, see your doctor immediately so that a proper diagnosis can be made and appropriate treatment can be initiated accordingly.
