Celebrated with much fanfare across the country, the Navratri festival marks the beginning of the 2022 festival of Dussehra, Karva Chauth and Diwali. During the 9-day Navratri (Navratri 2022), many people will fast for 9 days. In India, it is a tradition for people not to eat grains during fasting. During fasting, only a few selected foods are consumed. During fasting, the body has very limited options for maintaining energy. Such as buckwheat flour, curd, potatoes, sago, etc.But don’t be discouraged because Here we have listed some of these foods that you can eat during Navratri fasting.

In this case, potatoes, fox nuts or buckwheat are not suitable for some people. Because all of these things can cause constipation and abdominal pain. Some foods also taste spicy, which is a problem for many people who stop fasting.

1 chia seed

Chia seeds are not grains, but they come from the mint family, just like sabza or basil seeds. Therefore, there is no harm in consuming chia seeds during Navratri. Chia seeds are a nutrient-dense food that provides fat, protein and carbohydrates, and fiber, according to the December 2019 issue of the NCBI Online Journal.

Not only that, but it can also absorb a lot of moisture. Therefore, by consuming them during fasting, you will neither have problems with dehydration nor constipation.

2 quinoa

You might think of quinoa as a grain or a variety of rice. But you are wrong. Quinoa – Rajgira is part of the amaranth family and it is a seed. It can be used as a rice substitute if you are fasting.

Quinoa can be eaten during Navratri fasting. According to a study conducted by the Food Department of the Slovak Polytechnic University, it is rich in protein, fiber and various vitamins and minerals. It’s nutritious and an instant energy source.

3 sweet potatoes

During fasting, if you are looking for something sweet, add sweet potatoes to your fasting menu. Sweet potatoes are known to eliminate dehydration in the body. It contains elements like potassium, sodium and calcium which are very beneficial to the body. It is also known as an immune booster.

4 brown sugar

If you’re looking for a healthier option during your Navratri fast, brown sugar is perfect for you. You can also use honey and jaggery. It also won’t increase your weight and your cravings for sweets will decrease.

5 other seeds

Flax, sunflower, or chia seeds are all good choices. You can add them to fruit salads or yogurt and eat them. These tiny seeds will help keep your energy levels up and make a healthy snack too.

According to an online article on sunflower seeds published in the journal Health, sunflower seeds can help control cholesterol and blood sugar.
