“Drink a lot of water”! Here’s everyone’s advice for healthy living. But sometimes drinking too much water may not be so good for your body. While every cell in the body needs water, have you ever heard of water addiction? By the way, too much water can actually be harmful to the body. There are other terms for water intoxication, such as overhydration and water toxicity. Simply put, it’s a condition also known as overhydration.

Learn what water intoxication is

When you drink too much water that your kidneys can’t excrete, it puts pressure on your kidneys. This dilutes sodium in the blood and causes cells to swell.

If we talk about the causes of water intoxication, then strenuous physical activity like running can sometimes lead to overuse of water, which can be a problem.

Recognize symptoms of overhydration or water intoxication:

1 yellow pee:

First, the color of the urine is the main indicator of water intoxication. The color of your urine depends on your body’s water level. If your urine is yellowish in color and not completely clear, you have drank too much water in a short period of time.

2 Frequent urination:

If you’re urinating more often than usual, you’re drinking too much water. On average, urinating 6 times a day is fine.

3G disgusting:

When you have too much water in your body, you experience nausea, vomiting, headaches and diarrhea because the kidneys cannot remove the excess water. Sometimes it can also cause brain damage.

4 Swelling:

Inflamed cells can cause inflammation of the skin, which can lead to discoloration and swelling in the hands and feet. Sometimes it can also cause muscle cramps as the water level rises and electrolyte levels drop.

How much water should you drink a day?

There are no specific guidelines for how much water a person should drink in a day. But on average, women under the age of 30 should drink about 2.7 liters of water a day, and men under the age of 30 can drink 3.7 liters of water. Pregnant women, the elderly, and especially athletes cannot always rely on thirst levels.

It is important to note that even though our kidneys (adults) can expel 20 to 28 liters of water per day, they can only excrete 1 liter per hour. Therefore, it is recommended to drink no more than 1 liter of water per hour.

The symptoms of water intoxication appear to be similar to those of dehydration. Therefore, it is necessary to determine what situation they are going through. If you have water intoxication, you can eat some salty snacks to relieve it. Our bodies have the ability to alert us when we need more water, so drinking too much water can lead to a fatal situation and we need to be careful.
