Vishal Upreti, 39, felt a pain in his chest some time ago. However, this pain was very mild and lasted only a few seconds. But Vishal and his family felt it necessary to consult a doctor. A consultation with the doctor and some tests revealed that Vishal had blood clots in his artery. Because of which the blood that was going to the heart did not arrive in the right amount. Because of this, he had to face a minor heart attack.
However, considering that the disease was detected at an early stage, the doctor advised for now to take medicine and go for regular check-ups.
After a few years, when he was returning from his morning walk, he started having chest problems and stopped breathing after just a few steps. Somehow he got home and collapsed as soon as he got there. The family immediately transported him to the hospital, where doctors, after a detailed examination, determined that he had suffered a heart attack.
Doctors then performed an “optical coherence tomography (OCT)” test that takes 3-D images inside the heart’s arteries and discovered that one of his vital arteries was narrowed by a blood clot.
These modern facilities are a lifesaver for heart patients
1 OCT is required
Doctors immediately performed percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and inserted stents to keep the artery open. So that the flow of oxygen to the heart can be unhindered again. OCT was performed again after the procedure to confirm SCAD coverage. No complications were detected during OCT. After being in the hospital for just a day, the doctors discharged Vishal after giving him medication and advice.
There are many similar incidents where it has been seen that with the help of modern imaging technology like OCT (Coronary Artery Disease Treatment) there have been many improvements in the treatment of heart diseases. Coronary artery disease is the most common heart disease among cardiovascular diseases and is still a major concern in India, but technological advances in this field have played a significant role in saving lives.
2 Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is an excellent option for the treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD), which opens the way for blood to reach the heart by removing the fat deposited on the walls of the coronary artery. In this process, the blockage in the artery is identified. Then the artery is opened by placing stents.
3 Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)
PCI has been followed by coronary angiography (CAG) for decades. It is still considered standard procedure, but CAG has several drawbacks. Coronary angiography (CAG) does not confirm the severity of the condition.
At the same time, the practical use of PCI with newer techniques such as OCT and IVUS (Intravascular Ultrasound) helps physicians make decisions about patient treatment. It provides precise measurements, helping to properly select and set up the stunt.
A healthy lifestyle is also a necessary option
Although continuous technological advancements have helped in better treatment of patients, adopting a healthy lifestyle is also very important and one should adopt a healthy lifestyle to maintain good heart health. Small lifestyle changes and identifying risk factors such as regular exercise, healthy diet and avoiding smoking etc. can make a big difference in the treatment of heart disease.
