Ghee is loaded with vitamins, omega fatty acids and antioxidants. It has been used as a cooking tool since ancient times and is present in every Indian household even today. In fact, Bollywood stars like Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Rakul Preet recommend consuming ghee every day. You may already know that castor oil has many health benefits, but you should also know that not everyone should consume it. Yes! Ghee also has some side effects.

Are there really any side effects of eating desi ghee?

To find out more about this, Healthshots spoke to Hari Lakshmi, Consultant Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mother Hospitals, Chennai. Lakshmi says, “Ghee is healthier than most saturated animal fats. Saturated fats are good for keeping cholesterol in check and keeping the heart healthy. But some people believe that ghee is bad for them because it contains fat. Unfortunately, that’s right.”

“Yes, butter is rich in healthy fats like omega-3, which are good for your health. But fat is not good for everyone. There are certain situations or health conditions in which fat should be avoided when eating. ”

Here are 5 health conditions you should avoid eating fat:

1. If you are allergic to milk

Since ghee is a dairy product, people who are sensitive to milk should not consume it or consume it in moderation. Ingestion of the oil may cause symptoms of rash, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. While there are some people who tolerate fat with lactose intolerance. Therefore, if you are allergic to milk or lactose intolerant, consult your doctor.

2. Not for heart patients

The presence of oxidized cholesterol in fat can increase the risk of various diseases, including heart disease. The presence of fatty acids in it increases the risk of heart attack. In fact, the American Heart Association recommends limiting saturated fat intake to less than 7 percent.

3. Diseases related to the liver

Ghee does not cause liver problems, but if you already have liver related diseases like jaundice, fatty liver, gastrointestinal pain, then you should avoid ghee as it can lead to serious organ problems. But consuming fat in small amounts does not cause liver problems.

4. Fat people

If you are on a weight loss diet, it is okay to consume two tablespoons of oil per day. But if you increase its consumption, it can lead to weight gain. Lakshmi says, “Ghee contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which helps people lose weight, but is still a calorie-rich food and consuming too much can lead to obesity. Hence, not recommended for obese people.”

5. Pregnant women have digestive problems

Although some people find oil a laxative, it can also be difficult to digest. Therefore, if you regularly experience digestive problems such as indigestion, bloating or constipation, you should avoid it or consume it with caution. Pregnant women are advised to reduce their fat intake as they often experience indigestion and bloating.
