The birth of a baby is the beginning of new learning for the new mother as well as for the father. This is the time when many tips are pouring in from all sides. Now every mother can decide in confusion which of these should be believed and which not. So let’s find out from the pediatrician how healthy the child is and whether the use of home remedies is in it or not.
Everyone in the family wants to take care of the child in every way. Be it food, drink or sleep. In this care, sometimes they lick honey as soon as they are born and sometimes they give water when they are thirsty. Small children often cry because of stomach ache. Then most people recommend to give boiling water. Should they be given? Is it easy for a baby’s small stomach to digest all these things? To find out, we spoke to pediatrician Shekhar Vashistha, consultant pediatrician at Moolchand Hospital.
Find out what the experts have to say about it
Dr. Vashisht says that like mother’s milk, it is the answer to every need of a newborn baby. But it is important to know that there are many types of boiling water available in the market for children’s digestive problems. They also contain sugar and alcohol. These medications may also contain small amounts of sodium bicarbonate or baking soda. Therefore, it should not be given to a child.
He adds, “Babies cry a lot because of stomach pain when they have gas.” Some children cry continuously for several hours a day, in some of them this problem can be observed for several weeks. Since herbs help in digestion, boiling water is used to relieve colic in children. Boiling water is also used for hiccups. But doctors forbid giving such a thing to children aged 0-6 months. Instead of these drugs, doctors say that breast milk is more effective.
Remember that babies develop their digestive system at 6 months. In such a situation, alcohol or sugar can also be dangerous for the child. Not only this, it can affect the pH level of the baby’s stomach and can also cause severe colic symptoms in the baby. If there is no breast milk, any medication should be given only on the recommendation of a doctor.
Never give the baby water
According to Dr. Vashisht, mother’s milk is enough for both hunger and thirst of the child. Then it is not necessary to water him from above. Often, family members give water to the child for fear of dehydration, which is indigestible for the child.
Honey bees can also be harmful
It is very important to know that honey is not given to children under one year of age. Honey contains bacteria called Clostridium botulinum. If the honey is passed on to your baby, your baby can become a victim of a rare disease called “infant botulism”.
Cow’s milk can also be dangerous
If your baby is not breastfed, give him only formula. In this case, cow’s milk is not good for the baby’s digestive system and should not be given.
Newborn babies’ stomachs are very small and the mother should be careful not to overfeed the baby. A newborn baby’s stomach is the size of a marble, and he only needs one and a half spoonfuls of milk.
And finally
As the child grows, his belly grows. If you are feeding your baby with a bottle, it is important to determine how much milk to give him.
Mother’s diet in the first 3 months also affects the health of the child. Therefore, after giving birth, a woman should take care of herself and balance her diet. If the mother does not breastfeed properly or has any other problems, she can take additional supplements with the doctor’s advice. So that you don’t need to give anything other than milk.
