The full name of MRI is magnetic resonance. It’s a kind of scanning machine. It involves very powerful and controlled electric fields, radio waves and computer technology. With its help, detailed pictures (pictures) of the inside of the human body are drawn. This is a medical imaging. The waves are generated by a magnetic field and a computer to perform a detailed scan. This allows imaging of tissues or organs in your body. Tell us all about MRI scans.

X-ray radiation is not used. MRI technology is often used for disease detection, diagnosis and treatment monitoring. Most MRI machines are large, tube-shaped magnets.

Find out why doctors recommend magnetic resonance imaging

MRI has many advantages. How it gives an image without radiation and side effects.

How is the MRI technique used?

An MRI scan is used to:

  1. To diagnose diseases related to joints and bones.
  2. To recognize diseases related to the heart.
  3. To find out your risk of breast cancer.
  4. To detect spinal cord and brain problems.
  5. To diagnose pregnancy and liver cancer.
  6. For the detection of uterine abnormalities in women who are being treated for infertility.
  7. Evaluate the causes of pelvic pain in women, which include endometriosis and fibroids
  8. To diagnose ulcers, tumors or other diseases on different parts of the body

How is an MRI done?

Before the MRI procedure, you will need to put on a hospital gown and remove any metal objects you are wearing. You will need to lie flat on a retractable table during the scan. This table will then enter the dome shaped scanner. Either your head or your feet will go in first.

When you lie in an MRI machine, the magnetic field temporarily rearranges the water molecules in your body. Radio waves produce signals from these arranged atoms. They are used to create cross-sectional MRI images. These pictures are made as if the roti is placed on top of the roti.

Why are voices heard during an MRI scan?

It is important to remain calm during the procedure to get an accurate and sharp image. You may hear a loud banging or popping sound during the scan. There is nothing to worry about. This beating occurs when the electrical current in the coil of the MRI scanner is switched on and off.

The entire process can last from 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the part of the body being scanned and the number of images taken.

After the scan, an experienced radiologist will review these images and describe the problems to the patient. If there is any illness, a report will be prepared. People who have a pacemaker, who have bullets or shrapnel in their body, or who have cochlear implants cannot have an MRI.

How long does it take to prepare the results and report?

After the MRI scan, these images are transferred to a hard copy and CD. The radiologist then summarizes the MRI images into a report. The MR scanning procedure lasts from 15 to 90 minutes. The MRI report is available within 6 to 24 hours of the procedure in most cases.

What are the advantages of an MRI scan?

  1. MRI scanning is a non-invasive and painless imaging technique. In this case there is no danger of radiation.
  2. Soft tissue structures in the body such as the brain, spine, joints, heart, liver and many other organs can be more accurately identified using MRI images.
  3. Cancer, heart disease, muscle and bone diseases and many other diseases can be diagnosed with an MRI scan.

MRI can be of two types

The magnetic field strength of 3T MRI is twice as strong as that of 1.5T. Because of this, 3T MRI provides extremely clear and deep images. 3T is suitable for brain, vascular, musculoskeletal and small bone imaging. When the number of patients is large, it becomes necessary to perform magnetic resonance imaging frequently. A shorter scan time is useful to facilitate the imaging of more patients.
