Often, in order to save time and the mess that spreads after brewing tea, the trend of using tea bags instead of whole tea leaves or loose tea leaves has increased. Tea bags are not only used for making tea, they are also used for mental health, skin care, hair growth and gut health. It’s a great alternative to loose leaf tea, but did you know that excessive use of them in tea form can harm your health (tea bag health hazards)?

1 Antioxidants can be reduced

Unlike whole leaf tea, tea bags usually contain broken leaves, dust and leaf microparticles made by CTC or crush-tear-curl production. The leaves are put into large rolling machines, which break the whole leaves into small pieces.

These leaves are placed in tea bags. The process also affects the healthy compound L-theanine and antioxidants, which are beneficial in detoxification and improving overall health.

2 are harmful for diabetics

Kriti Srivastava explains, extra caffeine ingested through tea bags can disrupt blood glucose levels. Although herbal teas like turmeric tea, hibiscus tea, cinnamon tea, chamomile tea work against diabetes. Despite this, excessive use of tea bags containing caffeine is harmful for diabetic patients.

Using 3 bags of bleached tea

Bleach is also sometimes used in tea bags, which can enter your body with the tea. When they are bleached with chemicals, it affects their taste and nutritional value. If you want to use any tea bag by cutting it, then that is not right. This reduces both taste and benefit. Be sure to check the bleached and unbleached labels when purchasing.

4 I can’t get the right taste of tea

When the tea leaves are well dissolved in water, the taste improves. The leaves are broken and compressed into very small shapes for tea bags. This limited form does not have the same taste as whole leaf tea.

This does not mean that tea bags are completely harmful to health. Enjoy tea bags whenever you want, but drinking it over and over again can be harmful.
