Overweight, obesity, excess fat on the waist and belly, none of these are good for your health. All of these increase the risk of insulin resistance and heart health. According to new research, the risk of heart failure increases by 11 percent with each additional centimeter around the waist, which is why experts emphasize losing belly fat more than losing weight.

A study presented at the University of Oxford at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Barcelona stated that people with the largest waistlines are 3.21 times more likely to have a heart attack than thin people. The study also noted that the heaviest people were 2.65 times more likely to develop heart problems. Researchers trans thick the amount of sugar in the blood, which is more important for monitoring the risk of heart disease, is also confirmed.

What is the relationship between waist fat and heart health?

Heart failure is a chronic and incurable condition that can worsen over time. Therefore, it is advisable to monitor the waistline and treat it in time. Ideally, an adult’s waist should be less than half their height.

Higher risk for women than men

According to a new study, women with larger waists than their hips have a higher risk of heart attack than men with similar bodies.

The study, published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, suggests that waist-to-hip ratio measurements may be a better predictor of heart attack risk than body mass index for both men and women. Research shows that belly fat is not just general obesity, but body fat that contributes to an increased risk of heart disease.

“Based on the findings of this study, we know that women need to be especially careful,” says Rao, lead author of a 2015 American Heart Association scientific statement. “We already knew that a large waistline was a risk factor, but what’s interesting about the study is that women are particularly affected by that specific risk.”
