People often make up their minds to lose weight. They are also working very hard on this. You must have heard from most of you that losing weight is as much a battle as gaining weight. If obesity rates are high, losing weight always seems like a distant dream. A lot of times, from dieting to starving for just about everything, despite trying, they only lost a few kilos. In this weight loss fight, however, people fall into the trap of some weight loss myths. Health Shots spoke with nutrition expert Kavita Devgan to dispel some myths about weight loss.
Here are the weight loss myths and their facts
-
Myth: Popular diets can help you lose weight
fact: Who doesn’t want to lose weight fast? But this can’t be done overnight. It’s been a slow and beautiful journey. If you want to see a significant change in weight, you need to be aware of it. Plus, you have to keep trying. It should also be known that popular weight loss diets are not for everyone.
In the words of Kavita Devgan, “Following a fad diet will never help you lose weight in a healthy way. Instead, arm yourself with the right information. Weight loss is science. You have to follow it and put it into practice. Don’t just rely on rumours. Read some literature. Open some websites. Talk to some nutritionists.
You will realize that your question has very simple answers. Your web of misunderstandings and delusions has also been cleared. This will go a long way towards successfully combating weight gain (i.e. slack). “

Myth: Low Fat Means Healthy Eating
fact: If a diet is labeled “low-fat,” Devgan says, we don’t miss any opportunity to incorporate it into the diet. Think it’s the perfect way to keep your weight off. But less fat doesn’t necessarily mean fewer calories. Although low in fat, foods can contain carbohydrates and sugars. It can also be high in calories. Read the label in more detail.

Myth: Removing carbs from your diet leads to faster weight loss
fact: Fast dieters remove carbohydrates from their diets. But it doesn’t really work. Our bodies are always in dire need of carbohydrates. So feed your body with carbohydrates.
Also make sure you’re choosing the right carbs. Control your portion size. Eliminating them entirely will only make you crave them more. Sometimes you feed more than your body needs.
Myth #4: Taking Supplements Can Speed Weight Loss
fact: The market is flooded with weight loss supplements. These claims show great results. In fact, not all of these supplements work for everyone. For some people, the only reason they work is the placebo effect. People fall prey to clever marketing strategies. They begin to feel the need to supplement their diet. This naturally makes them more aware of what they eat.
In the end, the point is to make yourself aware of the complex relationship between food, body and weight. Instead of blindly believing in myths or fads, try to follow an evidence-based approach.
