Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition that occurs when excess melanin builds up in the skin. Melanin is the pigment that gives your skin its color. Although not usually a harmful condition, uneven skin tone can look unsightly and your appearance can affect your self-confidence.

While many skin lightening products available in the market are chemical based, aloe vera is the only natural substance that can help treat hyperpigmentation without any side effects. Dark spots on the skin can have a variety of causes, including exposure to harmful sun rays, pregnancy, medications (such as chemotherapy drugs), acne, hormonal disorders, pollutants, and more.

Let’s know how aloe vera benefits the body?

Aloe vera was approved by the FDA in 1959 as an over-the-counter remedy for skin irritation.
Pure aloe vera juice can reduce tartar and plaque build-up on teeth when used as a mouthwash.
When applied to the affected area, aloe vera has been shown to speed up the healing of ulcers and reduce the pain caused by ulcers.
Aloe vera contains aloin, which is a well-known laxative and helps relieve constipation when used in moderation.
Aloe vera juice is rich in nutrients and provides skin benefits such as clear skin, relieves eczema and psoriasis.

what is research

Studies have shown that aloe vera slows down skin aging. It helps reduce wrinkles and improves skin elasticity by increasing collagen production. Aloe vera gel has been shown to reduce skin redness thanks to polysaccharides that help reduce inflammation.

Aloe vera is used in many hair products because it helps with hair loss and rubbing aloe vera on the affected area can help hair grow back.
Many moisturizers, lotions, face washes, and soaps use aloe vera because of aloe vera’s moisturizing and healing properties. Thanks to its antibacterial properties, it helps prevent acne, removes dirt and oil from the skin and works better to prevent scars.
It is a great remedy for reducing the symptoms of sunburn and speeding up the healing process.
Studies have shown that aloe vera can also help with hyperpigmentation.

How aloe vera helps with hyperpigmentation

Some studies suggest that specific gelling chemicals in aloe vera: aloin and allosin break down excess melanin cells and inhibit the production of excess melanin.
This is a two-step process. Specifically, aloin breaks down excess pigment deposits and aloin prevents the skin from accumulating more melanin. The combination of these two effects leads to skin lightening over time.

Aloe vera also helps in hydrating the skin as it is rich in water. Contains antioxidants like selenium, zinc and magnesium to help protect your skin from harsh chemicals, sun damage and pollution. In this way, aloe vera keeps the skin hydrated and strong, as well as working for cell production and turnover.

Follow these ways to use aloe vera for hyperpigmentation

Although you can use aloe vera on its own, there are many ways to enhance its effect.

1 aloe vera, lemon and honey

Mix well one spoon of honey, half a lemon and two spoons of aloe vera gel.

3 Aloe Vera and Vitamin E

Mix half a teaspoon of vitamin E with a teaspoon of aloe vera
Take the mixture and gently massage it into your skin
leave on for 30 minutes
then wash thoroughly with water
Follow this procedure once a week for better results

4 aloe vera and shea butter

Mix well one spoon of aloe vera and one spoon of shea butter (you can also use one spoon of olive oil instead of shea butter)
apply the mixture on the skin
leave for 15 minutes
wash thoroughly with water
Repeat this process two to three times a week for better results

keep in mind

Not everyone’s skin is different, so choose the one that suits you best. Sometimes it is also possible to be allergic to aloe vera or other mentioned ingredients. So be sure to do a patch test and if a rash appears or your skin becomes irritated, stop using it.
